With calendars finally flipping over to the 1st of March, signups for the Traveling Pants Project are officially closed! And we certainly have enough people - an impressive 135 nerdfighters have signed up to take part in the project! This is going to be an epic journey. :D
This means that the next leg of the preparation will now begin - planning and sorting out logistics. Because we are so many people, it’s pretty obvious that we’ll have to split this into different pairs of pants; one pair traveling between 135 places would take years! I’ve done some math and figured that (assuming that everyone who has signed up is still on board) our easiest choices are either three groups with 45 people each, which considering shipping and so on would probably take a little more than a year, or five groups with 27 people each, which would take less than that. From this discussion I got the impression that most of you thought it would be better to just use pants, and that each pair should go all the way around the globe instead of going in different directions. This still means that not every pair of pants will make it to each continent (we only have two participants in South America and three in Asia), but they’ll all take a round trip!
An idea has been proposed that the groups will compete to see who can collaborate do the most creative/cool thing with their pants and complete a list of challenges, and I think this would add a really cool element to the project. If you agree and have an idea for what said challenges could be, head over to the discussion here!
To make this logistically easier, I also think it would be good to have more than one pants curator - so that there’s one person to specifically keep track of each pair of pants and take updates from their group. If you’re interested in being a pants curator, please email me (at yourtravelingpants@gmail.com) and say why you want to do it and how you could help make the Traveling Pants Project as great as it has potential to be. :) Because I think a smaller number is easier to handle, I’m inclined to say we’ll need five pants curators for five groups. If you have strong opinions to the contrary, feel free to start a discussion in the group or the thread!
By now, it would be great if those people who were on the fence could make sure whether they will be able to participate and let me know, so that we are ready for the next step in preparation which will be sorting out the groups and collecting people’s postal addresses. Once we have the curators sorted, I will send out emails and let you know who to give your address to. :)
DFTBA, everyone - the Traveling Pants project is officially underway. :D
Iris, Pants Curator
Your Traveling Pants is an international project out of nerdfighteria to connect people all over the world through post - and pants.
Together, we will send a pair of pants on an epic journey around the globe, chronicling our lives and decorating the trousers along the way. Why? For fun, for awesome and as an exercise in connecting nerdfighters across the world! :D
Participating in the project is fairly simple, and even if you don’t want to participate this will definitely be interesting to watch! Right now we’re rolling up our cuffs and getting ready to rumble, but keep an eye on this spot and our twitter for more info to come, or head over to the nerdfighter forum Your Pants to sign up to participate.
